Perry Grant Juarez - Veterans Arts Scholarship

In the United States its estimated that 1 in 10 homeless people are Veterans of military service.

One of those veterans was Perry Grant Juarez, who like his grandfather, served our country with pride and conviction.

Perry was always gifted as a child playing any instrument after a few tones and had a real talent at drawing. His art was picked up by magazines and was earning money for art while attending grade school and pursuing sports. A tough wrestler and long distance runner Perry preferred those singular sports where victory rested solely upon his individual efforts.

Like many veterans Perry dedicated his life to the Navy and found a brotherhood that became the extended family and the purpose he always desired. During his third year of service he was injured and honorably discharged sent home to heal and find another path.

Perry also suffered from bipolar disorder, a severe mental illness that debilitates 46 million people around the world. During the 47 years of his life medications and community care kept the illness under control but after his service abruptly ended, Perry was unable to reintegrate back into society.

This began a long battle to find stability in his life and after a few years Perry ended up homeless.

During the 10 years that he remained on the streets Perry continued to create music and write but the life slowly took its toll on his mind and body.

In March 2018, Perry took his own life.

We created this scholarship to honor those veterans, the gifted ones, who may never see their gifts utilized if they are focused only on survival.

Our scholarship is given to one deserving veteran each year and can be used for any arts education or study they choose.

Their art will be shared with the world and your donation will go directly to the schools tuition or supplies needed to continue the study.

If the veteran is homeless some of the funds will be used to insure that they are in a sponsored housing program through the Veterans Administration to ensure stability.

If you would like to volunteer a veteran for this scholarship, please use our contact form.

If you have a school or location to volunteer or a place study please contact us.

Recipients are awarded in March 18th of each year, Perry’s birthday and submissions are due by February 15th.

Any veteran who is active or discharged may also apply.
